We have an opportunity for an Operations Manager to join our Engineering Construction (EC) team based in our Victoria Park office. You will be responsible for the management of a key component of our Heavy Lift Business Unit providing crane services to both internal and external clients.
The role encompasses people leadership, crane fleet management, planning & mobilisation, delivery in the field, commercial and financial responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead from the front in promoting a culture of continuous improvement, team development, and a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, policies, guidelines, and quality standards across all sites and workshops.
  • Drive excellence in operational safety performance, implementing initiatives to improve safety outcomes and reinforce a culture of accountability and compliance.
  • Demonstrate excellence in personal interaction, employee engagement, employee relations, and teamwork. Lead effective management of talent including performance management, training, career development, and succession planning.
  • Manage people and operations to deliver exceptional service across a large operational division supporting EC as well as our Maintenance and Industrial Services Division with regular travel to operational sites across Australia.
  • Manage and negotiate with suppliers, OEMs, and external service providers to ensure fit for purpose support, best value outcomes, and strong ongoing commercial relationships.
  • Develop, manage, and control budgets, capital investment business cases, and overall financial performance, implementing initiatives to improve cost effectiveness and achieve agreed financial targets.
  • Enhance and expand the business by identifying, contributing to, and taking advantage of new business development opportunities, while fostering strong relationships with customers and contractors to ensure contract requirements are met.
  • Maintain subject matter expertise in Heavy Lift and Asset Management by staying current with industry trends and developments, attending industry conferences and events, inspecting OEM facilities and equipment, and undertaking domestic and international travel as required.
  • Coordinate and drive fleet strategy and associated initiatives, including delivery and support of new and leased plant and equipment, proactive and planned maintenance, KPI reporting, and continuous improvement of maintenance systems to maximise fleet availability, utilisation, and efficiency.

What you’ll bring:
  • Engineering Degree or Trade qualification (relevant trade) with significant demonstrated experience in the management of teams in a large organisation.
  • Knowledge of crane operations and industrial services in the resources sector with the ability to manage multiple external customers. You will understand the constraints of working in live operating environments across Mining and Oil & Gas.
  • Strong people leadership skills across all levels of the organisation including field-based teams.
  • Ability to effectively communicate at a senior management level within our organisation and that of our customer's and external stakeholders.
  • Extensive experience managing internal stakeholders and providing internally focused services.
  • Strong understanding in commercial management, budgets, forecasting and change management, with a focus on driving sustainable operations.
  • Ability to manage risk as applied to sites including HSE, quality, communication, organisational and site/project-specific challenges (schedule, budget, etc) risk.
