Description & Requirements

We are seeking a Project Accountant to join our Heavy Lift Businuss Unit. This role will see you working closely with project managers and key stakeholders to support successful project delivery. taking responsibility for delivering accurate, timely and insightful financial management across assigned projects and ensuring that project financials are well-controlled, properly reported and aligned with both budget expectations and organisational standards.


Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Control
  • Monitor project budgets, costs, commitments and actuals throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Maintain strong financial controls to ensure expenditure aligns with approved budgets.
  • Perform monthly reconciliations of project financial data.
  • Perform Work In Progress (WIP) accounting to track the progress and profitability of projects.
Reporting & Insights
  • Prepare and deliver monthly project financial reports, including variance analysis.
  • Analyse cost trends and highlight financial risks, opportunities and performance indicators.
  • Provide clear, actionable insights to support decision-making.
Forecasting & Budgeting
  • Collaborate with project managers to develop initial budgets and ongoing reforecasts.
  • Update cost-to-complete and cost-at-completion forecasts regularly.
  • Recommend corrective actions for budget deviations.
Billing & Revenue Recognition
  • Manage project billing cycles, including progress claims and ad hoc invoices.
  • Support accounts receivable and administration teams with invoice queries and cash collection activities.
Compliance & Documentation
  • Ensure adherence to internal policies, accounting standard and audit requirements.
  • Maintain accurate and audit-ready project financial records and supporting documentation.
  • Support internal and external audits as required.
Process & System Management
  • Maintain and update project financial data in the ERP or financial management system.
  • Identify and support opportunities for process improvement and automation.
  • Assist in system testing, upgrades and enhancements related to project accounting.
Stakeholder Collaboration
  • Work closely with project managers, procurement, contractors and the wider finance team.
  • Communicate financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Provide financial guidance to support project planning and commercial decisions.


Required Skills & Experience

  • Experience in heavy haulage/lift equipment services, maintenance services or the construction industry preferred.
  • Strong business partnering and communication skills.
  • Solid understanding of project accounting principles.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and reporting skills.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems (JDE, Dynamics, Excel).
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Able to manage deadlines and prioritise workload.
  • Proactive approach to identifying issues and recommending solutions.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and financial discipline.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or equivalent.
  • CPA/CA qualification or progress towards accreditation.
